Police have evacuated Terminal 8 at JFK airport in New York after Port Authority Police received a call of shots fired in the departures area, according to spokesman Joe Pentangelo.
There are currently no injuries, no arrests and no confirmation of shots fired.
However, Port Authority police are evacuating the terminal at this time to be cautious, Pentangelo said.
A ground stop has been issued at the airport due to “security,” according to the FAA command system website. The Port Authority added that a substantial police presence of PAPD and NYPD officers remains at JFK as well as LaGuardia Airport. They added that an investigation is ongoing and that travelers should contact their carriers for further information.
Video and photos from the scene showed hundreds of stranded passengers waiting outside the terminal.
