The Niger Delta Avengers has claimed responsibility for bombing the 48-inche crude oil export line in Rivers State.
The spokesman for the militant group, Mudoch Agbinibo, in a statement posted on the group’s website on Saturday, said the attack was initiated to protest the “overdramatisation of the so-called dialogue and negotiation moves by the Federal Government.”
The Niger Delta Avengers, however, maintained that it was open to dialogue, adding that it would only accept a peace process that comes with honour.
It warned that the attack was a wake-up call to the Federal Government to stop dramatising the proposed dialogue.
The group said, “On September 23, 2016, our strike team brought down oil production activities at the Bonny crude oil export line. Since the cessation of hostilities and the commitment of the PAN Niger Delta Elders and stakeholders team, the Federal Government and its agents are turning the expectations of the Niger Delta people to shameful scenes. This is only a wake-up call; we may not have other ways to say it better.”
The NDA further warned that it would resist any military action that would undermine the ceasefire on the side of the government, stressing that the posture of President Muhammadu Buhari was not assuring enough.
The statement partly read, “We are still in favour of the dialogue and negotiations. We want peace with honour. We will resist all actions undermining the ceasefire from the side of the government and its security agencies.
